Heartland BBQ Challenge

The Greater Omaha BBQ Society announces the Heartland BBQ Challenge 2012.

To be entered into the Challenge the team/head cook must be a member of GOBS  in good standing as of MAY 1, 2012.   A BBQ Team must cook in four (4) participating contests during the months of May – September 2012.  (See participating contests list below.) All contests are KCBS Sanctioned.

Teams will be ranked by their highest overall scores in four contests.  Those cooking in more than four contests will have their four highest scores submitted.  There are nine (9) participating contests (see contest list below).  The overall winner will receive four (4) free entries into the 2012 participating contests.  Second place winner will receive three (3) free entries and third place will receive (2) free entries into the 2012 participating contests.  The overall winner will be able to choose two contests, and then draw the other two (2).  Second place winner will draw three (3) contests next, and the third place winner will have the remaining two (2) draws.

To participate in the Heartland BBQ Challenge, teams need to be members of The Greater Omaha BBQ Society (GOBS) and inform a board member of GOBS.  The top ten teams will be posted on the GOBS website, www.gobs.org.   Standings will be updated after each contest on the website. All disputes will be settled by the GOBS Board.

  2. May 11 & 12  - BBQ in the Bluffs in Council Bluffs, IA (KCBS)
  3. June 1 & 2 – Valley Veteran’s BBQ Contest Valley, NE (GOBS Sanctioned)
  4. July 20 & 21 – Riverfest 2012 Red White and Que, Bellevue, NE (KCBS)
  5. July 27 & 28 – Westfair “I Got Smoked at Westfair” contest in Council Bluffs (KCBS)
  6. Aug 10 & 11 – Cass County “Cookin at the Fair” Weeping Water NE (KCBS)
  7. Aug 17 & 18 – 20th Nebraska State BBQ Championship, LaPlatte, NE (KCBS)
  8. Sept 1 & 2 – Septemberfest BBQ & Ribeye Steak Cook-off Challenge, Omaha, NE  (KCBS)
  9. Sept 7 & 8 – Ribs, Rods and Rock n Roll, Vermillion, SD (KCBS)

GOBS reserves the right to refuse entry to any cooking team or individual without cause. This challenge may be canceled by GOBS at any time prior to September 30, 2012 because of any circumstances that prevent the fair conduct of the challenge or that are beyond the control of the GOBS organization.
